I'd love to fill you in on the last few months of my life. However, I had a message from my friend Gilbert on Facebook the other day, who had spent two hours trawling my Diaryland archives and was most upset that he wasnt mentioned once. So to make it up to him I now have to dedicate an entire entry just to him.

I first met Gilbert back in the summer of 2000. He was friends with the notorious Jason. Longtime readers will need no explanation of who he is, newer readers, in a nutshell, he was someone who I had an affair with behind his girlfriends back, waited two years for him to finish with her, then when he did he got back with her three days later when I was in Majorca. I have been suffering the consequences ever since.

Anyhoo, it was a beautiful August Bank Holiday in 2000. Myself and my friend Laura (who I call Doo), decided to go out drinking all day, which was very unlike Doo, but we did anyway. We walked into Senoritas, and straight away Doo clocked Jason. And he was with his girlfriend. I'd only been seeing him about 3 months at this point and it was the first time I had seen her. Also with Jason was Gilbert, who I had heard Jason talk about but had never actually met. Anyway after about half an hour Jasons girlfriend left and Jason and Gilbert came over to sit with me and Doo.

Straight away I thought what a nice fun chap Gilbert was. Jason introduced him as "This is Gilly. He's the man" which we found quite amusing. We could tell straight away that him and Doo fancied each other, and when he asked her what she did for a living she told him she was a page 3 model!!! I'm still not sure why, but I do remember that for the first few months that they were dating Gilbert had Doo in his phone as "Page 3" and she had him in her phone as "The Man"

So anyway, we had a great day, just ended up staying in Senoritas all day getting pissed. I still maintain to this day that that was the best Bank Holiday I've ever had. Every year I try to match up to it but it doesnt happen!!!

As it got later we decided that we would all go back to Jasons house. I think for a while the idea was to go clubbing because Doo even went home and got changed, but we never quite made it. I think basically there was one thing on everyones mind for when we got back to Jasons (No not an orgy you filthy buggers, but certainly sex!!!) and we all piled back.

So me and Jason go to his room, and are about to get down to it, when we can kind of hear just how well Doo and Gilbert are getting on!!! Im sure Gilberts going to love me for putting that in!! Then after we were all finished Doo went home and I think I stayed there the night?? Cant remember exactly. Oh well its not pivotal to the story. Moving on.........

I believe Gilbert was seeing someone at the time that he met Doo, but I remember him ending things quite quickly as it was obvious they were made for each other. I remember being really pleased but really frustrated because I thought "Well if Gilbert can finish with his girlfriend why cant Jason?" Had I known the way it was going to end and that I would end up on the verge of a nervous breakdown, I clearly wouldnt have carried it on. However I was 18 and in love, and actually believed all the things he told me. which just proves one thing in my eyes. 18 years olds are fucking stupid!!!!

I think Gilbert actually repeatedly told me that even though Jason was his mate that I could do better, I should move on, he wasnt worth upsetting myself over. I should have listened, but again, very stupid. One night, Doo and Gilbert were housesitting for his sister and I'd had a text off of Jason after not speaking to him for a while, saying that he wanted to hold me but he couldnt because I wasnt there. I got hysterical, crying so much I could hardly breathe. It was awful. I rang Doo up and wasx practically incoherent on the phone, and she sent Gilbert round to pick me up because I was in such a mess. I'll always be grateful to him coming to get me that night. Those kind of things prove a guy really cares about you when he'll go and pick your mate up when she's a snivelling wreck!!!!

Cut to the present, and now Doo and Gilbert are married. I went to their absolutely beautful wedding in September, and spent most of the ceremony in tears. I almost couldnt believe that 7 years had gone past since that first meeting in Senoritas on that Bank Holiday monday. And i definately couldnt believe that they were now married. Who would have thought that anything good would have come out of my fling with Jason?? If I had never been seeing him then Doo and Gilbert might never have met!!!

In conclusion, Gilbert has been a good freind and confidante to me over the years, and a great boyfriend, and now husband to Doo. I hope they are very happy for years to come. Hope you're happy with that Gilbert!!!!
